What to do in Seville when it rains: indoor plans and maps

If you are wondering what to do in Seville when it rains, change your itinerary before setting off: choose an indoor venue, reduce travel and check tickets. Not all monuments are fully covered, and a museum inside a park does not guarantee access when bad weather closes the park.

A rainy day: choose your area first

This guide suggests alternatives, not an itinerary to visit every place. In heavy rain, avoid crossing the city to chain visits together; one well-chosen activity can fill the morning.

  • City centre: Bellas Artes for a museum visit; the Cathedral if it fits your booking and admission conditions.
  • Torre Sevilla: CaixaForum for exhibitions or an activity with a confirmed place.
  • María Luisa and Las Delicias area: Casa de la Ciencia or the Aquarium, planning the journey and the outdoor stretch to the entrance.
  • Cartuja: CAAC if its programme interests you and you accept that part of the venue is outdoors.

Six alternatives to a walk in the rain

Indoor exhibition rooms are the reason for these suggestions. Always check access, capacity and the journey to them: we do not guarantee a completely dry visit.

Museo de Bellas Artes

A central option for spending a morning in a few galleries. Courtyards and travel to the entrance are not the same as covered rooms. From September to July, published hours are Tuesday–Saturday 09:00–21:00 and Sundays and holidays 09:00–15:00; check Mondays and special dates. Arrive well before admission cut-offs.

CaixaForum Seville

Indoor exhibitions and separately scheduled activities. General admission covers current exhibitions, not any workshop. Check availability for your date and plan the journey to Torre Sevilla: being in the same area or complex does not guarantee a fully covered outdoor route.

Casa de la Ciencia

Choose exhibitions, planetarium sessions or a workshop according to your interests and group ages. Check hours, timed sessions and bookings separately. We do not assume every museum ticket includes the planetarium or present an old activity as still available.

Seville Aquarium

The main route offers an indoor activity. Its institutional listing gives last admission as one hour before closing: do not arrive at the last minute. Confirm ticket conditions and plan the journey; a nearby public transport stop may still leave an outdoor walk.

Cathedral: interior visit, not rooftops

An option if you have a cultural visit ticket. Check your ticket's route and assigned entrance: Cathedral, Giralda, courtyards and rooftops are not equivalent spaces. General admission follows its own order; ask first if you want only the interior. We do not promise you can skip a section without confirming the conditions.

CAAC: exhibitions with outdoor transfers

An alternative for contemporary art. The Cartuja venue combines buildings and open spaces: choose indoor exhibitions and check their locations. We do not describe it as entirely covered. Check hours, admission and the journey before leaving.

How to organise the morning and afternoon

If you are staying in the centre

Choose Bellas Artes or a booked indoor visit and then eat nearby. If rain continues, do not automatically add Triana or Plaza de España. You can spend the afternoon at another confirmed activity, but allow time for queues and travel.

If travelling with children

Prioritise an activity they enjoy at the Aquarium, Casa de la Ciencia or CaixaForum. Check session ages and adult accompaniment. Explore our guide to Seville with children to adapt your pace, pushchairs and breaks.

If you already have tickets

Check the venue's announcements and your booking's change or cancellation terms. Rain does not mean an automatic refund. Do not buy a second activity before finding out whether you can use the first.

To adapt a first visit, use our two-day Seville itinerary: replace outdoor blocks rather than fitting every activity into one day. Check travel in our transport guide.

Free or affordable plans

Bellas Artes: lists free admission for accredited EU citizens and €1.50 for other visitors. Check identification and specific conditions.

CaixaForum: general exhibition admission is €6 and free for under-16s and other groups listed by the centre. Workshops may have their own fee and reservation.

CAAC: lists free admission Tuesday–Friday 19:00–21:00 and Saturdays 11:00–21:00. Check the day's conditions and closing procedures; this does not make all its spaces indoors.

For other options without paid tickets, explore our guide to free places to visit, but skip outdoor walks when the weather prevents you enjoying them.

What not to assume is covered or open

The Cathedral's cubiertas are rooftops, not shelter: the official website explains that much of this tour is outside and it may be cancelled in bad weather. Do not confuse it with the indoor nave.

Alcázar and Plaza de España: gardens, courtyards and squares remain outdoors even where there are rooms or galleries. If you have a booking, check which parts you can enjoy; we do not recommend a complete visit as if everything were covered.

Museo de Artes y Costumbres Populares: its official listing warns that opening can change if rain or wind closes María Luisa Park. It also lists the first floor as temporarily closed at this review. Confirm before travelling to Plaza de América.

Pabellón de la Navegación: its homepage announces that the permanent exhibition has ended its run and is not open to the public. We do not include it as available based on old ticket or workshop pages.

Follow official information and change your plans during weather alerts or safety closures. Do not cross closed venues or look for alternative ways in.

Food, bookings and frequently asked questions

Where can I eat without crossing all of Seville?

Choose a venue near your activity and reserve where appropriate. Our guide to eating near the Alcázar and Cathedral covers that area, not every destination in this list. Confirm the menu and service; a covered terrace is not always an indoor dining room.

What can I do on a rainy Monday?

Do not assume every museum is open: several normally close on Mondays, while some make holiday exceptions. Check options such as CaixaForum or the Aquarium and their specific calendar first, rather than assuming an ordinary Monday schedule applies.

Do I need to book?

It depends on the venue and activity. Workshops, planetarium sessions and timed visits may require advance booking. Explore our tickets and monuments or the Seville events guide to prepare alternatives; check dates, total price and cancellation terms before paying.
