Museum of Fine Arts

In Plaza del Museo, overlooked by a statue of Murillo, this museum is essential for Seville’s Baroque painting, especially Zurbarán, Murillo and Valdés Leal, and nineteenth-century Andalusian painting.

Archaeological Museum

Founded in 1879, the museum has occupied the 1929 Ibero-American Exhibition’s Fine Arts pavilion in Plaza de América, María Luisa Park, since 1946. The original guide recorded a temporary closure for renovation in March 2024; check its current visitor information before planning a visit.

Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions

Nearby, the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions occupies the former Ancient Art pavilion of the 1929 Ibero-American Exhibition. Its collections explore ceramics and folk traditions, including textiles and musical instruments.

General Archive of the Indies

Beside the Cathedral and Alcázar, the Archivo General de Indias was created in 1785 to bring together documents concerning Spain’s overseas administration, previously dispersed among archives in Simancas, Cádiz and Seville.

The collection includes approximately 43,000 bundles, 80 million pages and 8,000 maps and drawings, largely from institutions responsible for the overseas territories.

Andalusian Centre for Contemporary Art (CAAC)

On La Cartuja island, in the Monastery of Santa María de las Cuevas, the CAAC combines contemporary collections and temporary exhibitions. The original guide describes a collection of more than 3,200 works.

Torre del Oro Naval Museum

The Torre del Oro’s museum explores maritime exploration and Spain’s naval history. The original guide lists nautical instruments, compasses, figureheads, maritime paintings and prints, old sea charts and historical documents among its displays.

Triana Ceramics Centre

Discover Seville’s traditional ceramic art at the Triana Ceramics Centre, created in 2014 to preserve and promote the city’s pottery heritage. It is close to Plaza del Altozano.

Flamenco Dance Museum

This museum explores flamenco culture through its displays and associated performances and activities. Check its current programme for live shows and interactive experiences.

Castillo de San Jorge: Centre for Tolerance
