Sierra Norte de Sevilla: towns, maps and day trips
Sierra Norte de Sevilla lets you combine towns, landscapes and walks without turning your trip into a race to cover kilometres. Official park information also uses the name Sierra Morena de Sevilla. This guide suggests two day trips and a weekend option, with journeys and admission conditions to check.
Choose an outing, not a list of towns
For a day, choose one town and a nearby activity. Times below are approximate and exclude travel from Seville. We do not present Cazalla, Constantina and all natural sites as a single walking route.
Cazalla at an easy pace
A morning around Plaza Mayor, Consolación and central streets; lunch and a booked afternoon visit if heritage or food interests you. This is our suggested plan if you prefer a town and a leisurely meal to hiking.
Constantina and Cerro del Hierro
Combine a town walk with a short route through the former mining site. Calculate travel between them and available daylight; if walking slowly or in hot weather, choose just one.
What to see in Sierra Norte: six reference points for your visit
These maps locate places of interest. They are not a continuous route or, by themselves, proof of an accessible path or authorised car park.
Plaza Mayor in Cazalla
A starting point for exploring the town and the Consolación church area. Check opening if you want to visit interiors.

The market occupies the former San Francisco convent. Distinguish walking around it from stall opening times.

Outside the town centre. Check current access conditions before adding it: appearing on a map does not guarantee unrestricted admission.

For a walk through streets on the castle slope. Allow for gradients and respect private entrances.

Continue towards the upper town if it suits your mobility and the day's conditions. Check access before climbing.

Reference point for the official short trail. Road access and the walking route are separate: follow the protected site's signs.

Option 1: Cazalla and its surroundings
Spend the morning in central Cazalla. Take a lunch break and leave the afternoon for a confirmed visit, such as the Cartuja or a food activity. If adding a walk, choose a specific trail and check its status; entering just 'Huéznar' in navigation is not enough.
Option 2: Constantina and Cerro del Hierro's short route
Visit the town or natural site first according to temperature and arrival time. The Andalusian government's listing describes Cerro del Hierro's circular trail as 2.746 km, low difficulty and a reference duration of one hour. This is different from longer routes with the same name. Allow for stops, and do not confuse low difficulty with the absence of rocks, steps or gradients.
To reach the start, the official listing directs you off the SE-7102 towards the settlement, then along the paved lane to Casas de los Ingleses. Use authorised access and do not enter closed galleries, mines or passages. Cerro del Hierro trail information and status.
Weekend: one town day and one nature day
If staying locally, split Cazalla and Constantina over two days, leaving one for a trail that suits your group. This reduces road-hopping and lets you adapt the walk to the weather. Explore our selection of hiking routes near Seville for more options.
Getting from Seville and around the area
By car: choose the specific destination first and calculate each journey. There is no single 'entrance to Sierra Norte'. Use permitted parking and download your map for areas with limited coverage.
By train: the Cercanías network includes C-3 towards El Pedroso and Cazalla-Constantina. Check actual services for your dates with Renfe; do not assume an hourly train. Cazalla-Constantina station is outside the town centres: organise the last stretch and return before buying.
By bus: check the connection to your chosen town and the return. Arriving in Cazalla does not automatically resolve travel to Cerro del Hierro or Constantina.
Without a car, spending the day in one town with a confirmed connection may be easier. For departure from Seville, explore our Seville transport guide.
Where to eat and what to reserve
In Cazalla, compare options near the centre and market; in Constantina, Calle Mesones is useful for a town meal stop. Mountain-area food includes Iberian products and seasonal dishes, but not every venue serves the same options each day.
Before leaving, confirm kitchen hours and book for weekends or holidays where appropriate. Ask directly about vegetarian choices or allergens. We do not publish menus or prices without a current menu. Take enough water and food for the trail: do not rely on an open bar at the start.
Access, closures and precautions before setting off
Checked on 12 October 2026: Ventana del Visitante lists as temporarily closed the trail to Cascadas del Huéznar and the recreation area at Nacimiento del Huéznar. We therefore do not include them as open stops in the plans above. These notices concern those facilities, not closure of the whole area.
Check current status before travelling: Cascadas del Huéznar and Nacimiento del Huéznar. Do not use alternative paths to enter a closed site. Swimming is prohibited at the waterfalls.
Check the weather forecast and official notices. Change your plan in extreme heat, storms or conditions that make walking difficult. Bring appropriate shoes, water and a charged battery; allow time to return in daylight. Stay on marked trails and do not collect items from the protected site.
For an accessible itinerary, check the route listing and confirm the specific stretch: neither 'low difficulty' nor 'greenway' guarantees the whole route suits your mobility.
