Things to See in Santa Cruz Beyond Seville Cathedral and the Alcázar

Santa Cruz is more than a route between the Cathedral and the Alcázar. The neighbourhood deserves a visit of its own. Its small squares, alleyways and changing light explain why wandering here is still one of the best things to do in Seville.

Start at Patio de Banderas

This is one of the natural entrances to the neighbourhood. From here, step into a maze of streets where it is worth putting your phone away for a few minutes.

Plaza de Santa Marta

Small and sheltered, it is so close to the Cathedral that the contrast is surprising. Many visitors miss this corner because it is not on the most direct route.

Callejón del Agua

Walk beside the Alcázar wall and notice how the scale of the city changes. We also have a story about the sighs of Callejón del Agua (in Spanish).

Plaza de Doña Elvira

Orange trees, tiled benches and a familiar image of Santa Cruz. Try to arrive early or late in the afternoon to enjoy it at a quieter pace.

Plaza de los Venerables

One of the neighbourhood's focal points, this square leads to the Hospital de los Venerables, a cultural attraction that many people overlook.

Calle Vida, Calle Agua and Calle Judería

You do not need to look for a major attraction on every street. Their appeal lies in walking between them, noticing doorways, courtyards and views, and letting the neighbourhood do the rest.

Plaza de Santa Cruz

This square gives the neighbourhood its name and connects with the Murillo Gardens, a good way out if you want to continue towards Prado or Plaza de España.
