The Longest Streets in Seville

Calle Pagés del Corro in Seville

Love Seville and exploring streets that seem to go on forever? The city’s vast historic centre is a maze of streets that takes you back to its Almohad past. Today, we explore some of the longest streets in the old town.

Imagine walking along Calle San Vicente, with around 800 metres of history. From the sixteenth century, the street offered a glimpse of the city’s social hierarchy. Aristocratic and bourgeois palaces lined the stretch towards the convent of San Antonio, followed by more modest houses, many now converted into three-storey buildings. The final section had a humbler character. These contrasts inspired the saying “San Vicente se divide en don Vicente, Vicente y Vicentillo”: the street shifts from the grand “Don Vicente” to the familiar “Vicente” and the diminutive “Vicentillo”.

Another gem is Calle Jesús del Gran Poder, with 825 metres of history. Before 1900, different sections went by names such as Calle de las Palmas and Chiquitos. From 1869, the whole street was known as Palmas. It received its current name in 1900 following a proposal from the brotherhood based in Plaza de San Lorenzo.

Next comes Calle Feria, described here as the longest street in the old centre, at 880 metres. The stretch from Conde de Torrejón to Omnium Sanctorum was once called Ancha de la Feria. A weekly market has been held here since the thirteenth century, following Ferdinand III’s conquest of the city. Living history!

Triana has its own gem: Calle Pagés del Corro, around 1,000 metres long, taking you from Chapina towards Plaza de Cuba. In the nineteenth century, its sections were known as Cava Vieja, Cava Baja, Cava Alta and Cava Nueva. It was also called Cava de los Gitanos, reflecting the Roma community that lived there.

Other impressive streets include Sol at 640 metres, Alfarería at 658, Betis at 735 and San Luis at 750.

Wonderful walks with history around every corner! Ready to lose yourself in these seemingly endless streets? Enjoy your Seville adventure! 🌟
